VR Simulator and Motion Arcade Machines: Players, Floor Space and Power
By Ele-Amuse Team
VR and motion simulators are the highest-revenue-per-play units in most arcades — and the easiest to buy wrong. A VR 1080 rotating chair roller-coaster simulator can anchor a venue, but only if you size the space, power and queue correctly. This guide covers the three numbers that matter.
Player count: solo thrill vs shared experience
Simulators split into two jobs:
- Solo / duel seated: a 2-seat black VR 360 chair seats two players side by side. Good for couples and short queues.
- Cinema / pod: a 9D VR cinema seats 4–8 in moving chairs watching a shared film. Higher throughput, higher ticket.
For a 200 m² venue, one 6–8 seat cinema plus two duel chairs is a common, balanced start.
Floor space: more than the chair
A simulator's footprint is the chair PLUS the safety clearances PLUS the queue. Budget:
- Duel chair: ~4 m² machine + 3 m² queue ≈ 7 m²
- 9D cinema (6 seats): ~10 m² machine + 6 m² queue ≈ 16 m²
Place simulators on a solid, level floor away from the kids' ride zone — the motion and sound carry.
Power draw: the silent dealbreaker
Motion simulators draw real current. A 2-seat VR chair often needs a dedicated 220V/16A or 110V/20A circuit; a multi-seat cinema can need 2–3 kW. Confirm your hall's panel capacity before signing the layout. Confirm the rated voltage (commonly 110V or 220V) and current draw per model with the factory, and match it to your site’s circuits.
Cycle time and throughput
A VR roller-coaster cycle runs 3–5 minutes. At 5 minutes with 2 players, that is 24 plays/hour per chair. The VR helicopter flight simulator is similar. Cinemas win on throughput: 6 seats × 8-min film ≈ 45 plays/hour.
If your venue peaks on weekends, favour cinema throughput; if it is a steady weekday flow, duel chairs are fine.
Maintenance you can plan
Motion rigs need more care than a claw machine:
- Weekly bolt and harness check
- Monthly actuator lube (per the manual)
- Keep a spare power supply on site
Ele-Amuse ships spec sheets and a warranty with every simulator, and our sales team walks you through the maintenance schedule on order.
